Reborn As A Dragon Girl With A System

Chapter 10 - Venturing Out Into A New World Part Two

A warm breeze blew across Kana’s face as the light around her dimmed. She found herself on a ruined stone platform that looked to be very ancient. She was surrounded by many different kinds of plants and tall trees with thick trunks. She could hear many birds, and other animal sounds all around her. She once again made her victory pose as she yelled out: “I’m on the ground! Finally! I thought I was gonna die so many times since I woke up here!”

“Hmm? Well, I suggest you be careful, dear. This is the Forgotten Forest. The monsters that roam this place are pretty strong.” Lysairth warned.

Kana started to become nervous as beads of sweat began to form on her little dragon forehead. “Lysairth, will I be okay? I mean, I won’t die trying to make it out of here, right?”

“Hmm? No no… I am actually keeping all the stronger monsters away. I only say be careful just in case one decides to try its luck. If one does show up, I will help you to either fight it or escape. I said I would do whatever I can to help you, right? I would rather not allow you to roam around this forest, so I will get you out of here using the speediest route. I do not want what could be the last of my kind to disappear from this world. Plus, if you die, my soul would disappear as well. When I merged with your body, I gave up any ability to be a roaming soul. You are basically keeping me alive. And I can not manifest at all until you are much stronger. So, for now, let’s head in the direction you are facing. I am sure you haven’t eaten since you came here, right?” Lysairth gave up everything to help Kana. She did not have to, she could have just left her alone and continued to live quietly inside the temple as she was, but when Lysairth saw Kana, she felt hope for her kind. She felt hope that her kind can maybe one day be revived. That and Kana was extremely cute, and everyone knows cute is justice!

“Hmm… Now that you mention it, I am very hungry.” Kana stood up on her hind legs and rubbed her belly. “Is there anything around here I can eat?”

“I do not know if the area is still the same since the last time I had been here a few thousand years ago. But there was once a patch of rainbow fruits straight ahead. They are a very common fruit in these parts and are very sweet.” Lysairth words caused Kana to frown. ‘Was that not the fruit that I tried to get before I fell down that slope?’

“I will have to take my revenge then!” Kana suddenly shouted out.

“Come again?” Lysairth was confused by Kana’s sudden declaration.

“That fruit you are talking about it smells sweet, is egg shaped, and is different colors?” Kana asked.

“Yes, it is. Why, have you tried one before?”

“It’s the fruit of the devil! I will get my revenge by eating all the devil fruits I see!” Kana yelled out and charged forward, leaving Lysairth even more confused.

One thing both Lysairth and Kana did not take into account was that after many years a small patch of what Kana calls devil fruit had now turned into this massive overgrown forest of them. Kana pushed past a bush and skidded to a stop as she saw the mass of devil fruits in front of her. She sat on her hind legs and rubbed the back of her head bashfully as she let out a light laugh and said: “Ahaha! I was just kidding. How could I eat all of you? I will just take a few…”

Lysairth snickered. ‘Ahh, Kana, oh Kana, you are too cute.’ Luckily for Kana, the weight of so many devil fruit had weighed the branches down enough for her to grab hold of one. She used her front paws and held on tight, and backpedaled with her hind legs. And she pulled, and she pulled, and she pulled until Lysairth came back from her cute trip and yelled: “Kana, don’t do that you will….”

“Hmm? Huh? Ahhh!” The branches of the devil fruit tree had rubbery properties, and you needed to break the fruit off at its stem in order to pick them. Pulling on them would result in you being sling-shotted through the air as Kana has. At this moment and time, Kana was having her first taste of what it means to fly. And fall… without a parachute… “Oh shit! I’m gonna crash. Why are my shitty wings not doing anything!? I’m flapping like crazy here!”

*Bang!*

“Ouch! That hurt…” Kana sat up and rubbed her head. She was no longer near any devil fruit tree. She went to get up but felt that the ground was somewhat soft and furry. Kana turned her head to see a large creature that looked like a bear but had three eyes and a horn sticking out of its head.

“This is not good! Kana quickly get out of here before it wakes up. That monster is a three eyed horned bear! You can not fight that!” Lysairth warned, causing Kana to begin sweating once more.

Kana slowly began to move, but she seemed to be on the bear’s stomach, which was very squishy and moved every time she did, causing her to keep losing her balance. “Whoa! Wait! I’m falling!”

*Plop!*

Kana ended up slipping off the three eyed horned bear’s stomach and right onto her butt. “Ouch!” Kana got up and rubbed her butt. “At least I didn’t get any rocks up there…” After shaking her butt a bit, she went to leave but stopped when she suddenly felt something looking at her. She turned around to see the three eyed horned bear’s three eyes bloodshot red and staring right back at her. Its eyes looked as if they were trying to kill her with its stare alone!

“I-…”

“I’m so sorry!” Kana yelled as she took off, running as fast as she could.

“Rawr!”
