Rewind System: Vampire Harem In The Apocalypse

Chapter 67 - The Apocalyptic City (Part 2)

Xavier stared at the countless eyes in the ceilings above, just as he had expected, they were ghouls prowling the ceilings. Their clothes were ragged and their drools were dripping down onto the ground.

The ghouls had so far paid no attention to him because he was a Vampire Fledgling, but these ones, there was something different to them. They were starving.

They all had their eyes on Xavier who was smiling excitedly at the free XP.

[Quest: Defeat all the ghouls in the room.]

[Rewards:]

[+200 XP!]

[+300 Coin-]

Xavier’s attention shifted from the notifications over to the ghouls as in that instant, the wide opened fanged mouth of a ghoul had appeared right before his eyes, it had lunged at him.

*SWOOSH!*

*CRASH!*

Xavier leapt backwards barely avoiding it’s bite, watching as it crashed into the table and chairs before him.

‘It’s fast-‘ The thought flashed by Xavier’s head as the ghouls started to rain down on him.

*FWOOSH!* *SWOOSH!*

Xavier ran towards the wall, stepping left and right, as the falling ghouls lunged at him. As he made his way towards the liquor, avoiding every slash and grab by a hair’s margin.

*CRASH!* *CRASH!* *CRASH!*

The ghouls which had failed to grab Xavier on their fall, all crashed into the surrounding furniture.

Meanwhile, Xavier was only a few meters away from the liquor section. Before him however, were the last two remaining ghouls which had yet to fall.

They had ran along the celing chasing after his figure, waiting for the opportunity to strike. Then and there was the opportunity they decided.

As they lunged at Xavier’s figure which went sliding down a table, their eyes widened, as they noticed that his figure had completely disappeared from beneath it.

[Rewind Level 2: Retract.]

As they turned their heads, their bloodshot red eyes widened a hand grasped them.

Before they even knew what happened-

*Crunch!* *Splatter!*

Their heads were smashed together, crunching and breaking them before being dragged off and thrown away by Xavier who’d leapt over the conuter.

[You killed a Ghoul!]

[You killed a Ghoul!]

[+40 XP]

Xavier’s eyes didn’t bother to scan through the drinks, he didn’t have time, the ghouls which had fallen were already charging towards him.

Xavier grabbed and threw whatever alcohol bottle he could towards the ghoul, shattering and splashing it’s contents all over the wooden tables, and ghouls.

*Shatter!* *Shatter!* *Shatter!*

The liquor’s contents had splattered all across the room, on some of the rushing ghoul’s bodies and across the counter ahead of Xavier.

Seeing this, a grin grew on Xavier’s face as he pulled out a silver lighter.

*Flick*

Xavier flicked the lighter open, displaying a bright flame before dropping it. In that moment, the closest ghoul had leapt at Xavier.

*Clink!*

The silver lighter dropped onto the liquor-filled counter, instantly igniting the flames. The mindless ghouls which were being driven by their hunger, quickly stopped in their tracks and watched as the ghoul which had leapt before them, disappeared into the flames over the counter.

Following that came a surge of flames all around them as the liquor which had been splattered around were all being ignited one after another from the spread of flames.

Taking a few steps back, the wary ghouls looked left and right watching as the flames grew.

Before the thought of escape even came through their hungered, minds a voice called out to them.

“Oh…? What’s this?”

A figure emerged through the flames over the counter before landing right in front of the flames. Their boots and hands were covered in purple blood belonging to the ghoul’s he’d just slain.

Short spiky black and silver hair with crimson red eyes. The demonic grin on his face along with his cloak lit up in flames was enough to make even the starved ghouls feel fear.

“Haha, you really are afraid of flames.” Xavier mocked .as he took off his cloak, displaying two sword sheathes on his waist.

-Memory.

“Take this.” Said the butler as he threw an object over to Xavier, after he’d left the house.

Xavier grabbed the object before inspecting it. It was a silver lighter.

“What’s this for?” Xavier asked.

“Fire, the ghoul’s fear it. Make use of it in the city.”

“I thought they don’t attack Vampires.?”

“You’re a fledgling. Keep it just in case.”

-Memory End.

‘What do you know, it turned out to be helpful.’ Xavier thought to himself as he stared at the frozen ghouls.

Xavier knew from the moment he’d seen them that it would be impossible to avoid a bite or two at his level if he were to take on all of the ghouls in such a closed off space. One bite was all it would take for it to be over.

The bite of a ghoul was deadly to both Vampires and Humans.

‘But now that the stage is set…’

‘I’m finally free to go wild…’ Xavier thought to himself as he grabbed onto the handles of the swords on his waist.

Instantly, upon drawing it, he was overwhelmed by it’s quality. The one with the dark handle fit perfectly on his left hang, the weight of the sword, the balance, the grip it was amazing.

Xavier’s right sword with the white handle was slightly heavier, but as it was his dominant hand it felt just right.

[You are wielding two, Grade A Vampire Swords.]

[The sword desires blood in exchange for power.]

[Will you grant the sword blood?]

There were around ten ghouls remaining. They had all been frozen in fear as they watched the flames spread, but their hunger it was driving them insane.

Before they even knew it, they were charging at Xavier, thinking only of devouring him. Their hungers had driven them to break through part of their fear of flames.

But by the time the two closest to Xavier started moving, it was too late.

For his blade’s edge was already before them.

*SLASH!*

The blade slashed cleanly through both of the ghoul’s heads while Xavier slid right past them.

“Devour my blood.” He commanded as he stretched his arm out, pointing the blade towards the ghouls before him.
